Cabled Fingerless Gloves

The yarn used is KnitPicks' Decadence in Spring Leaf. I have fat arms and wrists, so though it's rated a 5 for weight, I cast on 40 sts onto size 9 dpns. Oh, this will probably take about two hanks if you do the version as written as I had a nice sized ball left over from the first one, but I'd bet it's not enough to get the second one done by itself.

THUMBHOLE
With care, pull out scrap yarn and place live sts evenly on three size 9 dpns. PM at beginning which should be palm side.
Row 1: K 6 from beginning. M1. K 6 sts. Depending on your skill level, M1 or M2. The M1/M2 are to avoid gaps at the base of the thumbhole. I find the palm side to be harder to fill in.
Rows 2-8: K all sts.
Row 9: P all sts.
Row 10: K all sts.
Row 11: P all sts.
Row 12: K all sts.
BO using both a size 9 and a size 8 needle held together.
Weave in ends.
If blocking, do so lightly as the cable is what pulls the fabric tight around the wrist when worn. Also, for those who are nervous about live sts for the thumbs (I know I am), I've found the explanation on how to do it from the mittens episode of Knitty Gritty to be especially helpful: Marking the Thumb (video) and Thumb (no video).
